If you could ask God anything what would it be?

In a National, secular pole, people across America were asked this very question.

The number one question that Americans would ask God if they could ask him anything was…

Why am I here?

The answer to this question has already been answered…By our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

In (Matthew 22:34-40)

The Sadducees and Pharisees were attempting to trick Jesus into revealing that he was a false prophet. So they asked him in verse 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?” In 37 Jesus replies, ” Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 The second is like unto it: Love your neighbor as yourself. 40 All the law and Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

There is our answer to the number one question we would ask God if he was here today…Why am I here.

The law in this passage refers to the Bible itself, and the prophets were men called by a love-sick God to turn the hearts of his children back to him.

The Bible begins with man and woman in paradise with God.

It ends with man and woman in paradise with God.

In between it reveals the ways men and women have rebelled in their relationships with God and each other.

The Bible then, reveals the answer to this question.

We are here to experience relationships.

Relationship with God.

Relationship with a spouse.

Relationship with our children.

Relationship to our siblings.

And relationship to people who enter our lives.

The reason we are here is to learn how to love the Lord God with all our hearts, soul and minds. And to then apply that lesson and love others the way we love the Lord.

Without judgement or malice.

So putting our purpose into words is simple…

applying the words is the hard part.

Loving God and Loving our neighbors  are the two commandments in which the entire Bible is suspended.

If you can accomplish these two things…You have fulfilled your purpose for being here.

This word is the interpretative word of the Bible.

It is a history of Gods Love for humanity, and his instruction to humanity on how to become loving like him.

So if you don’t understand Love, you can’t understand God, the Bible, or your Purpose for being here.

In my life, it has been through my relationships that I have come to know who and what the Lord is.

As a daughter, and then a mother, I acquired a frame of reference for God as a parent.

As a wife, I learned to orient myself to his message of joining two people into one purpose.

As a friend, I have learned about the loyalty and trust that love creates.

So if you really stop and pause for just a moment, it really is obvious WHY WE ARE HERE.

All ten commandments hang on these two.

Every one of them in one way refers to loving God, or Loving each other.

(Wouldn’t it be nice if we could go back to that system again.)

In Genesis 2, We learn of Adam and Eve, and their infamous “FALL”

Their fall was accomplished by Satan because of two things.

1. Separation.

2. Substitution.

These are also the things that distract us from loving God and each other.

Lets think about this for just a second…

Marriage was the very first institution that God implemented on Earth. He gave Adam the woman as a helpmeet, a partner, someone to love and care for.

Satan knew that in order to succeed in his codetta against God, he would have to separate the man and woman from each other and from God.

Because together, they were indestructible.

In society, throughout the entire history of mankind, when marriage as an institution has failed…That society soon thereafter also fails.

So his first object was to separate the man from God…and he would use the fruit.

Which introduces the second thing that he uses to distract us from our real purpose.

He told Adam and the woman that it was not about God, it was about the fruit…or in our case today..

Anything that distracts our hearts from loving each other and Loving God are part of Satan’s plan to overthrow the kingdom of God.

How many times have you had the thought…

If only I had that degree.

If only I had that marriage.

Or any number of IF ONLY’S that are keeping you from the happiness that is your birthright?

We are surrounded by examples of celebrities that have all the IF ONLYS that we desire…

And yet they are miserable.

It is an illusion that you can achieve happiness from anything outside of yourself.

If your love for God is the motivating force in your life…

You will be happy…

no matter what the outside circumstances may be.

Getting in touch with a higher power, gives your life purpose and meaning.

And a life filled with purpose and meaning is a life that glorifies God, and is a blessing to everyone lucky enough to know such a person.

We can all think of this type of person.

We have all at one time or another came in contact with a person who was humble, gentle, respectful, kind, and yet possessed an inner strength that could withstand anything in life.

When we meet such a person, our own personality is IMMEDIATLY and IRREVOCABLY altered. They change us, just by their very essence.

This is the goal and standard that I live my life by.

I don’t care if I am the prettiest person.

Or the richest person,

Or even the most popular person.

I long to be the kind of person that makes a difference just by being Me.

I want to stand out from the crowd.

I want to be different from the world.

I want to fulfill my purpose for being here.

I can only do that when I open my heart up to the Lord and to people.

Only then will my unique talents and personality become a source of blessing in life for the people who I interact with on a daily basis.

My ultimate goal in life is to be the kind of woman who when someone walks away from spending time with me, will feel…

And know that I genuinely appreciated the time we spent together.

If I can accomplish this one thing.

I will have not just consciously understood the WORDS that are used to describe MY PURPOSE for BEING..

But I will have BECOME that very thing…
