How the story of Pinocchio relates to real life…

Have you ever heard of a concept know as Archimedes Principle?

In really simple terms it says that if you drop a rock into a lake, the rock will sink to the bottom.

If you drop a rubber raft, it will float.

Thats WEIRD!

How does that work?

Archimedes Principle is true every single time, no matter what.

So what does this have to do with any of us?

Let’s take a minute and think about Pinocchio.

He was a puppet who suffered from a very serious problem…

Every time he told a lie, his nose would grow.

Imagine for just a minute what life would be like for you if you shared his curse.

When someone asked you something, you would most likely pause and make sure that what you were about to say was not going to make your nose grow again.

In Galatians 6:7, We read,

“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.”

If you think of it, Pinocchio is the perfect illustration of that scripture. When he would lie…His nose would grow.

That scripture promise can be depended on just as strongly as we can depend on Archimedes Principle.

The consequences of our actions may not be observed as immediately as you can observe the rock sinking into the water,

but make no mistake…

Eventually you WILL reap the consequences of your actions.

This is the reason that IRRESPONSIBILITY eventually becomes someones RESPONSIBILITY is because of this principle.

It is one of God’s Laws.

He created us to be responsible creatures.

In Genesis 1:26-28, We read:

26Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

Let’s take a minute and let something very important sink in to your mind here…

BEFORE God gave man the commandments, He gave him RESPONSIBILITY.

Have you ever stopped and really thought about that before?

God didn’t Give Adam rules,

He gave him Responsibility.

God knows that when we are acting responsibly, we really don’t require rules.
This principle of Reaping and sowing isn’t either good or bad, It just is.
And just like engineers have learned how to use Archimedes Principle to build great big ships that are capable of floating instead of sinking…
We too, can leverage this principle for Good things
Ignore it, and suffer the consequences.

Irresponsibility creates conflict within us.

I may be successful in convincing everyone in the entire world that I am not to blame for the hardships and abuse I have suffered in my life,
that I was simply an innocent victim of unfortunate circumstances…

I will NEVER EVER be capable of fully convincing myself that I was not at least partially responsible.
Lets think about that for a minute…
Have you ever seen a person who is smiling after they have successfully shifted the blame?
They may initially appear elated, but watch them in the moments and days following their deception…
They become paranoid, depressed and full of anxiety.
We are living in the middle of a culture that is full of these kinds of people.
We have dead beat dads, bankruptcies, drug abuse, etc and all of these are the result of irresponsibility.
This world is full of people who live daily with the weight of the shame and guilt that comes from shirking your responsibilities.
They blame everyone for their failures.
But rarely ever assign any responsibility what so ever to the man in the mirror.

No human will ever reach their full potential

As long as they choose to live irresponsibly.

When you know in your heart that you got away with acting out in an irresponsible manner, and that nobody “CAUGHT” you, or held you accountable…

You may be able to fool the world,

you CANNOT fool yourself!

Lets go back to Genesis 1:26-28 again.

Before God gave us commandments, He chose to give us responsibility.

He created man to have dominion over the Earth.

That is an enormous responsibility!

We bring unspeakable pain upon ourselves when we fail to accept and then act responsibly.

When you live with the expectation that others should pay for your food, your bills, and suffer the consequences that you rightly deserve,

you will NEVER EVER become the person God created you to be.

Your potential will be lost along with your dignity.

Humans are the happiest when they have learned to manage the money that God has given them in a way that shows responsibility and maturity.

When we parent our children responsibly.

When we grow and multiply the talents he instilled in us to enhance and better this world.

When you live your life in this manner, the path to God becomes straight.

You can only hide behind laws and decrees for a short time…

because the law of reaping and sowing will eventually hold you accountable for your actions.

BUT there is hope.

If you have been irresponsible, and are suffering tremendous consequences, then you are carrying a burden that you need not carry.

God would love to lift it off your shoulders.

Before He can do that YOU have to take responsibility for your life…LITERALLY!

So, today, are you going to be like Pinocchio, and lie hoping that nobody will notice your ever-growing nose…

Are you going to accept that the weight of your choices will be directly proportionate to your level of responsibility…

Are you going to leverage the law of reap and sow to your advantage…

Or are you going to choose to ignore it for another day and hope that you are the one exception to its force?

It is my prayer that we will all be more responsible with our lives, and begin to make the necessary adjustments in the areas of our lives where we have been irresponsible.
