Life is Filled with Divine Opportunities.
We are constantly encountering DOORS.
Some of them are opening…
While others may be Closing.
Our lives are filled with Divine Opportunities and it is our RESPONSE to these doors that will ultimately shape our lives.
Let’s stop for just a moment and reflect on a time in your life when you said “YES” to a prompting and walked through an open door…
How did that decision change your life?
Now let’s think about a time when you walked away from an opportunity…
How did that decision also change your life?
Did you regret the decision to NOT walk through an open door?
Or were you glad you didn’t?
These questions are powerful and will help to illustrate my point today.
The problem with Divine Opportunities is that the prompting will rarely come to us in an obvious form like the “Burning Bush”, or the talking Donkey in Shrek…
If you keep your EYES, HEART, and MIND open, you will be able to sense when a Door is Opening for you…
When one NEEDS to close.
7 “To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open.
8 I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.
A door is one of the richest images in all of literature.
It can represent SAFETY: A door that is chained and locked is a perfect image of safety.
A door can represent HIDDENESS: Behind closed doors…
It can represent REJECTION: Shut the door in my face.
It can also represent REST: Escape behind the door from the insanity of life.
But in the scripture from Revelation, it means none of those things.
The OPEN DOOR talked about in that passage is not a door that was unintentionally left open…
It is a Divinely Opened Door.
A door that has been intentionally, thoughtfully, and purposefully opened by God himself for us.
This particular door symbolizes boundless opportunities, unlimited chances to do something worthwhile, a “Grand Opening” to the arena of Significant Living. A chance to make your life count for all Eternity.
So…How can you recognize these Divine Opportunities?
These OPEN DOORS?
The ability to recognize DOORS is a skill that can be learned.
It simple means that you find a new, previously unrecognized, opportunity in a familiar place.
Can you think of a time in your life when a door closed on you?
For me it was the ending of my marriage.
That CLOSING DOOR, opened up a whole new world for me.
I still live in the exact same place.
I am still working the exact same job.
I still have the exact same friends.
So you might be wondering…
How did a whole new world open up for me if nothing really changed but my ?
When the Door closed on my marriage, I became a single mother who was desperate to find new ways to supplement my income to support my kids alone.
That NEED had not been there when I was a married woman.
Divorce OPENED the door to my creativity, my passions, and I discovered a dedication to my art that I never knew I possessed.
Those things led me to start a business,
And that has opened hundreds of new doors in my life.
Can you think of a CLOSED door in your life that led to a NEW OPENING for you?
One thing that you need to remember about DIVINE OPPORTUNITIES is this:
God will never open a door to just help you alone.
He opens doors that will bless many by the opportunity He is offering you.
So it is vital that you remember that while an OPEN DOOR is thrilling for me, it does not exist solely for my benefit.
An OPEN DOOR also does NOT guarantee all will be smooth and pleasant on the other side of the door.
Sometimes the open Doors God wants us to go through will require a hardship or a struggle on our part.
An open door does not offer a complete view of the future.
But what an OPEN DOOR always will represent is opportunity, possibility, and mystery.
But never assume that an OPEN DOOR From God means that he is laying out a hammock for you to rest in…usually the opposite is true.
Here is the Irony of the Door…
The only way to discover what is waiting on the other side is to be willing to go through the door and step out on the other side.
I am not using the OPEN DOOR as a phrase to describe just any opportunity either.
Today, I am talking specifically about the doors that offer you a chance to work WITH GOD- BY GOD- and FOR GOD.
These doors will in some way or another utilize the talents that you were born with, but have maybe never used before, either at all , or never thought of using them in this way before.
These doors are NOT random.
They are clearly doors that are opened by God for You.
In Genesis 12:1-3
12 The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.
2 “I will make you into a great nation,
and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.[a]
3 I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth
will be blessed through you.”[b]
Stop and think about this scripture for just a second…
The entire Bible hinges on How Abraham chooses to respond to this Open Door.
He did not stay.
He Went to the land that God would show him.
He didn’t ask where, or how God was going to make him a great nation…(though I am POSITIVE He had many questions.)
He just went through that door into a life of unknown possibilities…and the rest is as they say- HISTORY!
It is my hope and prayer for you today that when you encounter a DOOR in your life that you will not resist them. I pray that you will either let them close softly with faith…
Or that you will walk through the Opened door with courage because a beautiful life is waiting for you on the other side of the door.
